Description

This is the cover art for Theoktonia's Issue 1. As seen in the first story, Persephone is raped by a griphon (a common Zeus practice) which causes the two most powerful gods, her husband Hades and her father Zeus, to wage war upon each other.

The image, despite dwelling on a unoriginal concept; an old tale, the image itself is very original. The griphon has an unusual colour palette. Instead of more traditional brown feathers, you have gone for a more colourful colour scheme, helping this image stand out. This, in turn, makes the scenery look a little out of place; with brighter colours, one would expect something child-friendly, not rape.

The anatomy is done very well. There is a good sense of depth due to the use of outlines. The female's facial expression could show a little more emotion, but as it stands, is very good. The shading is phenomenal, maintaining an organic feel, despite being cel-shaded. The positioning of the griphon really helps to show the audience how powerful he is, in comparison to his prey.

Overall, this is a great work of art which features great colouring and great shading and outlines. My only gripe is that the female's facial expression could show a little more emotion, but this is great.
